BROOKINGS – South Dakota State was in the market for a quarterback, and Wednesday the Jackrabbits landed one.

Chris Oladokun, a graduate transfer from Samford, announced on Twitter Wednesday that he comitted to SDSU.

Oladokun started his career at South Florida. He appeared in six games in 2018 including two starts. Oladokum was 22-for-44 with 285 passing yards and three touchdowns in 2018.

He played in 12 games at Samford in 2019, starting eight of them. He threw for 2,064 yards with 18 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also ran for 491 yards and eight touchdowns.

Oladokun went 35-for-54 for 222 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions in Samford’s opening game of the 2021 spring season. That was all of the action he would seee throwing the ball the rest of the season. He did run for 26 yards and two touchdowns as well.

The Jacks needed another quarterback after starting quarterback Mark Gronowski and backup quarterback J’Bore Gibbs each went down with knee injuries.

Keaton Heide replaced Gronowski in the FCS National Championship game this spring after Gronowski went down. He went 11-for-22 with 107 yards and an interception.

Heide appeared in seven games in 2019 and threw for 1,072 yards with seven touchdowns and three interceptions. He and Oladokun are expected to battle it out for the starting position heading into the fall.
