Jeri A. Kellen, 61, died at her home in Flandreau on Monday, Aug. 27, 2018.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau, with burial in Hillside Cemetery, Egan. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral chapel.

Jeri was born in Denver on Aug. 14, 1957, to Steven and Eda Mae (Newhagen) Hasek. At the ripe old age of 6 weeks, Jeri and her family made the “big move” to Egan. Little did Jeri know that she would spend the next 18 years of her life there. She graduated from Egan High School in 1975.

Jeri then attended Watertown Business University for two years earning a secretarial degree. Upon graduation, she took a job in Flandreau at the Interlakes Community Action Program as a manager. Her duties included, but were not limited to, program scheduling, planning activities, doing bookwork and much more. Eventually Jeri added to her list of responsibilities the head cook position for the ICAP organization. Obviously, Jeri loved her job as she remained at the position for 26 years.

Over the course of time, Jeri received many compliments for her great cooking, friendly disposition, organizational skills and sense of humor. Many people involved in the ICAP program still remember her broccoli-corn bake and cucumber salad.

Jeri met the love of her life in 2002. She married Mike Kellen on June 25, 2005, in Flandreau. In 2005, Jeri accepted a customer service position at Larson Manufacturing in Brookings. She spent nine years there until her health forced her to retire.

Jeri was baptized, confirmed and married at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, where she was a member. She held many positions in the church over the years.

Jeri is survived by her husband, Mike; her brother, Tom Hasek, Egan; and special friends, Sandy Wittrock of Flandreau, Tylor and Jackie Petersen and family of Mitchell and Julie and Brad Jones of Okoboji, Iowa. Jeri was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
