Junior varsity girls pick up three lopsided wins over Rushmore

The Rangers outscored Rushmore a combined 28-1 to pick up a trio of wins over the weekend.

Saturday

 Brookings 11, Rushmore 0

Kiran Vugteveen and Shaylea Peterson both netted a hat trick, with the former adding one assist.

Alexis Schelske and Jenna Schulte both had a goal and two assists. Emma Rice and Addie Ramlo both notched a goal and an assist. Ella Park scored the other goal.

Heidi Merriman made seven saves to earn the shutout win for Brookings, which led 6-0 after a period and 8-0 through two.

 Brookings 10, Rushmore 0

The Rangers outshot the Thunder 55-1 and scored four goals in each of the first two periods.

Peterson finished with two goals and a pair of assists. Park chipped in with a goal and two assists. Jadyn Kuehl contributed two goals and one assist.

Schelske, Taryn Richter, Rice, Ramlo and Vugteveen each added one goal and one assist. Jayda Geraets dished out two assists.

Merriman stopped one shot to pick up the shutout victory.

Sunday

 Brookings 7, Rushmore 1

The Rangers pulled away from a 1-0 lead by lighting the lamp four times in the second period.

Schelske notched a hat trick while adding an assist.

Kuehl had a goal and two helpers. Richter, Kuehl and Ramlo also found the back of the net. Park added two assists.

Merriman made four saves between the pipes.

JV Boys

The Rangers bounced back from a loss to Watertown with a pair of victories versus Rushmore.

Friday

 Watertown 4, Brookings 1

The home team scored three times in the second period.

Brookings’ Noah Ronning scored a second-period goal off an assist from Jordan Svobodny.

Kaden Gutormson made 24 saves in goal.

Saturday

 Brookings 8, Rushmore 3

The Rangers got off to a fast start, building a 3-0 lead after a period.

Svobodny netted a hat trick and added an assist. Trevor Pederson contributed two goals and an assist.

Carter Merritt also scored twice and Sajen Perry tallied the other goal.

Gutormson made 22 stops to earn the win between the pipes.

Sunday

 Brookings 3, Rushmore 2, OT

Caden Krogman scored on an assist from Pederson in overtime to lift the Rangers.

The score was tied at 1-1 after a period and the Thunder were up 2-1 through two. Nick Jonas lit the lamp in the third to knot things up at 2-all. Merritt and Svobodny assisted.

Ronning scored the other goal off an assist from Krogman.

Gutormson made 14 saves.

PeeWee A

The Rangers went 4-0 to win the Dakota Premier Classic over the weekend at Larson Ice Center.

Friday

 Brookings 11, Mitchell 0

Owen Schneider notched a hat trick and a playmarker as the Rangers rolled past the Marlins in their tourney opener.

Jacob Peterson also had a hat trick while adding an assist. Jacob Kahle had a goal and an assist, while Carson Odde dished out a pair of helpers.

Riley Linstad, Cooper Deatherage, Chase Karch and Ren Jacobsen also scored.

Egan Jensen made 12 saves to earn the shutout victory between the pipes.

 Brookings 7, Omaha 3

The Rangers led 2-0 after a period and 4-2 heading to the third.

Peterson led the way with a hat trick and a pair of assists.

Schneider totaled two goals and an assist, with Linstad added a goal and a helper. Kahle scored the other goal.

Jensen made nine saves in the win. Brookings totaled 46 shots.

Saturday

 Brookings 6, Rushmore 2

Peterson scored in the opening period to stake the Rangers to a 1-0 lead and Schneider added a goal in the second as the hosts were up 2-1 heading to the third.

Lindstad and Peterson scored early in the final period, before Schneider found the back of the net twice to polish off the hat trick and secure the victory.

Schneider and Peterson both added a pair of assists and Linstad had one.

Jensen made 14 saves.

Sunday – Championship

 Brookings 4, Rushmore 3

Peterson scored early in the game as the Rangers were up 1-0 after a period.

Linstad, Luke Honkomp and Schneider each lit the lamp in the second to make it 4-2, and Brookings held on in the third period.

Honkomp dished out a pair of assists, while Peterson, Linstad and Kahle each added one.

Jensen stopped 20 shots in goal.

PeeWee C

The Rangers went 1-3 in the Dakota Premier Classic at Larson Ice Center.

Friday

 Becker Big Lake 9, Brookings 0

The visitors scored two goals in the first period, three in the second and four in the third.

Ryder Anderson and Nathan Brecher combined for 38 saves.

 Brookings 5, Sioux Falls White 3

Andrew Hahn netted a hat trick to help the Rangers pick up the win.

Hahn scored with 1:56 left in the second to put Brookings ahead 2-1. Sioux Falls quickly pulled even; however, Hahn scored again with 18 seconds to go in the period to make it 3-2. He added a third-period tally to provide for the final margin.

Haidin Heesch had a goal and a pair of assists. Keygan Peterson also scored.

Anderson and Brecher combined for 33 saves in the victory.

Saturday

 Rushmore 7, Brookings 1

Heesch scored an unassisted goal in the second period.

The Thunder led 2-0 after a period and 5-1 through two.

Brecher and Anderson combined for 43 saves.

Sunday

 Sioux Falls White 2, Brookings 1, SO

The Flyers outscored the Rangers 2-0 in the shootout to secure the victory.

Hahn scored early in the second period on an assist from Derrick Eischens.

Brecher and Anderson combined for 33 saves.

14U girls

 Huron 9, Brookings 0

The hosts scored four goals in the first period and four more in the second. The All Stars finished with a 30-5 advantage in shots.

The Rangers’ Rorii Quam made 21 saves.
