BROOKINGS – Award-winning illusionist and entrepreneur Harris III will be the keynote speaker at the 14th-annual South Dakota Entrepreneurship Education Conference, which will take place Feb. 20 in the Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium’s Club 71 on the South Dakota State University campus.

The conference, also known as Launch, starts at 9:30 a.m.

“The mission of Launch is to foster and encourage entrepreneurship in South Dakota. We want students to take away invaluable resources to grow their entrepreneurial thinking and for educators and economic development leaders to learn and share best practices to inspire an entrepreneurial mindset in others,” said Barb Heller, SDSU entrepreneurial studies coordinator.

Harris III, who has appeared on thousands of stages in 49 states and in nearly 40 countries throughout Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East, opens the event with his 10:15 a.m. keynote speech.

After an already successful career as a speaker and performer, he began a new season by relaunching STORY, the nation’s premier conference for creators and storytellers. What began as a simple two-day annual conference has exploded into a prolific movement of culture-shaping storytelling. Under his leadership, STORY has turned into a community that gathers in multiple cities around the world through a variety of workshops, conferences and events.

At 11:30 a.m., there will be two activities. One will be a panel discussion with South Dakota entrepreneurs Megan Nelson, Prairie Soul Studio; Dhiraj Sharan, Query.AI; and Unseen Outdoors’ Dylan Dulas and Kesmond Willert. Fire Brothers Fireworks’ Andy Jorgensen will moderate the panel discussion. He will also serve as the event’s master of ceremonies.

Running concurrently will be Harris III’s presentation, “Creating a Culture of Wow in a World of How.”

Following lunch, Harris III ends the day with “Storytelling and the Powerful Tool of Wonder” at 1:30 p.m.

The event is supported by the Ness School of Management and Economics and the Research Park at South Dakota State University.
