BROOKINGS – The DAR American Flag Award for September was presented by DAR Medary member Liz Gorham to Brad and Mindy Luze of Brookings for the flag display that they have in front of their home on 17th Avenue.
Brad is employed by Valero Ethanol Plant, and Mindy works as a program assistant in the School of Health & Consumer Sciences at SDSU.
Their flag display is the focal point of their landscaping. The display also included a statue of a military soldier that was set out to honor the service of Mr. Luze in Iraq, and their son’s service in the National Guard of Aberdeen, but the statue was taken from their yard. The Luzes would be grateful to have their statue returned safely back home.
The Medary Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is celebrating its 100-year anniversary during 2021 by presenting an American Flag Award each month to persons, businesses and organizations in the community. Liz’s DAR ancestor who fought in the American Revolution was Captain Remember Baker of Vermont.
