BROOKINGS – Police say a Brookings man has been arrested after he allegedly assaulted a woman during a domestic dispute, including threatening her with a knife and grabbing her by her throat.
The incident was reported about 9:30 a.m. Sunday by the 28-year-old Brookings woman, Lt. Derrick Powers said.
The incident happened earlier in the morning Sunday.
“She and the male were at the male’s residence, which was located in the 500 block of Main Avenue,” Powers said. “They became involved in an argument that turned physical.
“The male had brandished a knife and threatened the female, and she also reported that during this altercation, she had attempted to leave and when she did so, he grabbed her by the throat and threw her to the ground, not allowing her to leave,” Powers said.
She told police she had attempted to call 911, but he kept her from doing so, Powers added.
Sometime after she left the residence, she contacted police to report the incident. Powers said she did not have any injuries that needed immediate attention.
Officers located the 27-year-old Brookings man at his residence and arrested him on suspicion of aggravated assault, false imprisonment, and interference with emergency communications, Powers said.
He was transported to the Brookings County Detention Center.
