BROOKINGS – A 25-year-old man was arrested after a fight in which he allegedly knocked another man unconscious, according to Brookings Police.

The incident was reported about 10:30 a.m. Friday and occurred at a residence in the 500 block of Fifth Avenue South, Assistant Chief Derrick Powers said.

The two men, both Brookings residents who knew each other, got in a fight.

“It was determined that during this altercation that the one male had assaulted the second male by punching him, striking him with his fists to the point where, at one point, he was knocked unconscious, after which he was kicked and kneed in the head while he was on the ground unconscious,” Powers said.

“It appears that alcohol may have been involved,” he added.

The 25-year-old was arrested for simple assault and aggravated assault and transported to the Brookings County Detention Center, Powers said.

The other man received injuries as a result of the assault. An ambulance came to the scene, and he was transported to the Brookings hospital, Powers said.
