BROOKINGS – A Brookings man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a woman and an infant at a local residence, according to Brookings Police.
Officers were called to the scene in the 800 block of Onaka Trail at about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, BPD Sgt. Joel Perry said.
A 20-year-old Brookings man, Diego Lozano, is suspected of assaulting a 37-year-old woman and a 7-month-old boy, Perry said. Neither the woman nor the infant required medical treatment, he added.
A probable cause statement from Brookings Police says that the woman suspected Lozano of abusing the infant and set up a video camera in the baby’s bedroom, recording two instances of alleged abuse. The woman then confronted Lozano about the videos, and he allegedly struck her, the probable cause statement reports.
Lozano left the residence before police arrived, but he was found at about 3 p.m. Wednesday and brought to the police department for an interview, Perry said.
Lozano was arrested on suspicion of two counts of simple assault domestic and one count of abuse or cruelty to a minor under age 7.
Lozano is being held at the Brookings County Detention Center on $5,000 cash bond and an immigration hold.
