BROOKINGS – Street conditions contributed to a van vs. building accident Tuesday morning, according to the Brookings Police.
The accident was reported at 10:47 a.m. Tuesday and occurred in the 300 block of Fifth Street, Assistant Chief Derrick Powers said.
Robb Rasmussen, 65, of Brookings, who was driving a 2000 GMC Safari, “was pulling into a parking spot, began sliding in the snow and instead of pressing on the brake, pressed on the gas,” Powers said.
Rasmussen hit a parking sign and then hit the building occupied by Sioux River Bicycles & Fitness on the north side of the street.
Powers had no estimate of damages, but the building suffered large cracks and chunks displaced from the lower edge of the exterior façade.
No injuries were reported.
