BROOKINGS – The Omer String Quartet will open the 2019-20 season for the Brookings Chamber Music Society.

The society, which started in 1981, has the mission to present the finest in chamber music for the enjoyment of the Brookings community. All performances will be held in the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center’s Founders Recital Hall on the South Dakota State University campus.

Season subscriptions are available now from at the SDSU School of Performing Arts, which is located in the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center. An adult season subscription is $60. A family-inclusive membership is available for $120.

The Omer String Quartet will perform an all-Beethoven program at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 20. The quartet won the 2017 Young Concert Artists International Auditions and made debut performances in New York’s Merkin Concert Hall and the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

World-touring pipe organist Chelsea Chen will perform on the Founders Recital Hall organ Nov. 3 at 2:30 p.m. David Salmen, the builder of the Founders Recital Hall organ, stated “Chen is an extraordinary musician. She plays the standard repertoire with incredible grace but has also expanded the repertoire by premiering new works, often based on Asian folksongs.”

The 2019-20 SDSU School of Performing Arts’ Patricia Pierce Visiting Artist-in-Residence, the ZZYZX Saxophone Quartet, takes the stage Feb. 15 at 7:30 p.m. Three of its members are active military musicians. They have presented performances throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe.

The season concludes March 22 at 2:30 p.m. with Trio Solisti, which has been called “the most exciting piano trio in America” by the New Yorker. The Wall Street Journal has proclaimed the ensemble as the most outstanding chamber music ensemble of its kind. The group is Maria Bachmann, violin; Alexis Gerlach, cello; and Fabio Bedini, piano.
