Patricia Ann Sedivy, 82, of Brookings, SD, passed away Friday, Nov. 18, 2022, at Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls, SD.
Funeral services have been set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, 2022, at First Lutheran Church, Brookings, SD. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, 2022, at Rude’s Funeral Home, Brookings, SD.
Patricia Ann Berg was born April 5, 1940, in Watertown, SD to Aldon and Alvera (Bortnem) Berg.  She had one brother, Jim who was 13 months younger.  She was baptized at Lake Campbell Lutheran Church, confirmed at Castlewood Lutheran Church and was a current member of First Lutheran Church in Brookings, SD.
Her first boyfriend was Tom Brokaw (NBC News) as their families traveled road construction for federal munition plants in the Dakotas, Minnesota and Fort Worth, Texas.  This lasted five years.  Since school was in sight, Mr. Berg purchased a 480-acre farm in Hamlin County (Bemis, SD) where he raised Herford cattle and farmed.  She attended eight years of school at Hamlin No. 1.
Pat was a busy teen.  She enrolled at Castlewood High School where she lettered three years as a cheerleader and four years playing baritone in band.
She belonged to three choral groups, class secretary 4 years, FHA treasurer three years and won 5th in the State DAR contest with her essay on “What the Constitution Means to Me”.  She was crowned Carnival Queen her sophomore year and Homecoming Queen as a senior.
She was in 4-H for 10 years and won many blue ribbons in sewing and cattle.  Her thrill was winning Grand Champion of All Beef with her Herford steer Charlie plus first in Showmanship.
In 1958, she enrolled at Augustana for elementary education and a member of their marching and concert band.  She completed her two-year teaching certificate at General Beadle College in Madison, SD.
In 1960, she and two roommates moved to Rapid City to teach.  Here is where she met her husband, Fred Sedivy.  They were married and blessed with a beautiful daughter, Jacqueline Ann.  They moved to Oregon in 1964.  Pat had to work, so she took the Oregon Civil Service test and qualified as an undercover agent for six weeks (way to scary) and then as secretary of the Audiovisual Media Center.
In 1970, Pat got a divorce and moved to Brookings to raise Jackie at her mom’s home, a three-generation household.  This was necessary because no child support was received.  While in Brookings she was employed as an accountant at the SDSU Bookstore for 29 years.
Pat retired at 59, and was able to travel with her longtime companion, Dan Kondziolkia, whom she met in 1980.  They visited Italy, Poland, Jamaica, Costa Rica and several trips Mexico and Las Vegas.  They loved Black Jack.
Pat is survived by her daughter, Jackie Telkamp, of Brookings, SD; her three grandchildren, John (Shawna) Kirk of Denver, CO, Mason Kirk of Costa Mesa, CA and Jade Telkamp of Dallas, TX; longtime companion, Dan Kondziolkia of Brookings, SD and his children, Mike Kondziolkia and Amy Kondziolkia.
Pat was so proud of the strong, honest person Jackie became.  She loved her three grandchildren, John Kirk, Mason Kirk and Jade Telkamp.  Her love for animals (especially dogs) was heartwarming.
