Patriot’s Pen winners
The VFW Auxiliary presented the Patriot’s Pen Scholarship winners from the Brookings Mickelson Middle School and Toronto Elementary the checks for their participation in the essay scholarship contest.
The Patriot’s Pen Scholarship is offered to sixth, seventh and eighth graders. A 300-400 word essay on a topic chosen by the VFW national commander is required.
The Brookings VFW Auxiliary presents the first and second place winners from each participating school with a reward for $25 and $15.
At the spring recognition event for all VFW honorees the VFW Post and Auxiliary will honor the three top Post winners. First-place winner was Alexis Moravetz, second place was Jenna Sprang and third place was Ella VanSloten.
