Vehicles cannot park on designated roads during construction

BROOKINGS – Construction has begun on the City of Brookings asphalt paving project, the City Engineering Department announced Tuesday.

The contractor for the project is Bowes Construction, and the project includes milling off the top layer of asphalt and paving an asphalt overlay over the milled area.

The contractor anticipates the milling operation will start Thursday on the following streets:

• Sunrise Ridge Road, south of Sixth Street;

• Eastbrook Drive;

• 20th Street South between Main Avenue South and Ninth Avenue South;

• Westminster Drive;

• Brookshire Drive; and

• Breckenridge Lane between 12th Street South and Westminster Drive.

The anticipated schedule may be adjusted depending on weather.

The City is asking that vehicles do not park on these streets during the milling and paving work, and drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes during construction. Vehicles that are parked on the street during the milling and paving construction will be subject to towing at the vehicle owner’s expense.

“We would also like to remind the public to be cautious when driving or walking through the project area, especially around work areas under construction. The City appreciates everyone’s patience during the project,” the Engineering Department said in a prepared statement.
