BROOKINGS – A counterfeit bill was detected at a local business, according to the Brookings Police.
The incident was reported about 1 a.m. Thursday and occurred at the BP convenience store in the 2400 block of Sixth Street, Assistant Chief Derrick Powers said.
“An individual came in and attempted to pass a counterfeit $50 bill,” Powers said. “He attempted to use it to purchase something. When it wasn’t accepted, I believe he used other money.
“The clerk recognized the bill was fake because it appeared to have Chinese writing on it and also the (counterfeit banknote detection) pen indicated it wasn’t a real bill,” Powers said.
The male trying to pass the fake bill was described as being in his late teens with short bleached blond hair. The female with him was described as being in her late teens and having purple hair.
