BROOKINGS – Brookings Police Chief Dave Erickson gets a smile and an affectionate pat on the chest from his wife Julie after she pinned on his chief’s badge in a ceremony Thursday afternoon as family members look on.
In the chambers of the Brooking City & County Government Center, packed with his fellow law enforcement officers, family members and friends, Erickson received the accoutrements that represent the authority of his office: the insignia of rank – a silver star on each shoulder – and the chief’s badge.
Overseeing the “pinning ceremony,” City Manager Jeff Weldon thanked and lauded the 19-year BPD veteran for his service to the community.
Erickson expressed his thanks to his wife Julie, calling her his “No. 1 supporter.” He also thanked his fellow police officers and introduced his daughter, Maria, and his sons, Andrew and Zach, thanking them for their support and expressing his pride in them. Also present in the audience were his parents, John and Eleanor Erickson.
Brookings Mayor Keith Corbett expressed his admiration for the chief, extending well wishes while noting that “we have the best law enforcement in the world here in Brookings. We’re fortunate to have that.”
