BROOKINGS – Brookings-area residents are invited to join the South Dakota Board of Regents for a campus-community forum next week on the campus of South Dakota State University.

“We look forward to holding our board meeting June 26-28 on the SDSU campus,” said Regent Jim Morgan of Brookings. “It is a perfect time to invite local residents to join us for dialogue and a short question/answer session on topics of interest.”

The Campus-Community Forum will be held at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, in the Woster Celebration Hall of the SDSU Alumni Center, 815 Medary Ave., Brookings.

SDSU has a significant impact on the Brookings community and the regional economy, according to an economic impact report commissioned by the Board of Regents.

Based on Fiscal Year 2016 data, South Dakota State University generated about $963 million in annual economic impact to South Dakota from a state investment of $64 million. An estimated 23,548 people live in our state because of SDSU’s presence and the accompanying economic activity.

SDSU directly supports about 2,400 full-time jobs in South Dakota and more than 7,500 full-time jobs from the university’s resulting economic activity. In FY16, the university acquired $40 million in federal and private grants and contracts for research, development, and special projects. Additionally, SDSU students injected about $70 million into South Dakota’s economy through their day-to-day living expenses.
