BROOKINGS – Brookings Register readers will soon have their daily local news delivered directly to their mailboxes.

Starting June 1, the Register will switch to morning publication after years of being an afternoon daily paper. The Register will no longer print on holidays.

Delivery to our subscribers will be done through the U.S. Postal Service via same-day delivery. The newspaper will be placed in mailboxes at the same time mail is delivered. The Register will also continue to be available for purchase at local businesses and in racks throughout town by 10 a.m. Single copy rack, dealers and bundles will be dropped off by either a contractor or Register employee.

The change will not affect subscription prices.

Brookings Register publisher Billy McMacken said delivering the newspaper via the U.S. Postal Service will be beneficial to both the Register and its readers.

“The Postal Service gives us the best option to deliver the daily newspaper in the most timely and cost-effective method,” McMacken said. “It allows guaranteed delivery each and every day of publication and allows us to put more resources toward providing the best possible news coverage.”

Daily obituary deadlines for the print edition have changed to 3:30 p.m. for the next day’s publication.

The Register will still be responsible for customer service tied to deliveries. People are asked to contact The Register office at 692-6271 if a newspaper doesn’t come with their daily mail.

The Brookings Register is one of 125 newspapers in South Dakota and one of 11 daily newspapers.
