Six South Dakota State cross country runners – three women and three men – were named Tuesday to the 2021 Summit League Cross Country Academic All-League teams.
On the men’s team, five Summit League cross country athletes received academic all-league honors, including three Jackrabbits.
Thomas Breuckman was named to the squad with a 3.93 grade-point average as a mechanical engineering major. The Andover, Minnesota, native is a two-time league academic honoree on top of previously earning first-team league honors at the 2021 Summit League Cross Country Championships.
Daniel Burkhalter of Prairie City is a first-time recipient of this recognition, earning a 4.0 GPA as a statistics major. A sophomore, Burkhalter earlier took seventh place at the conference meet, placing him with five other Jackrabbits on the men’s All-Summit League First team.
Rounding out the SDSU contingent on the men’s academic team was Ben Olson, a mechanical engineering major with a 3.69 GPA. The Coon Rapids, Minnesota, native is now a two-time academic honor recipient. Olson claimed second place at the Summit League championships and earned first-team all-league honors this fall.
