Three Cossacks scored double-figure points as Sioux Valley beat the Bearcats.

Ellie Schmidt canned five 3-pointers while dropping in a game-high 17 points.

Julia Schneider finished with 14 points and eight assists.

Reagan Johnson posted a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Perri Liedtke added seven points and 11 boards.

The Cossacks were without leading scorer Miakken Vincent, who went down with a right knee injury early in the fourth quarter of a game against Beresford on Thursday. Her status for the remainder of the season is still unknown.

“Unbelievable effort; Merry Christmas,” said Sioux Valley coach Jamie Granum. “I’m a pretty happy guy right now. These girls responded and we talked about just some of the adversity that we’ve faced as a team. Not adversity in no one is sick and no one is losing their life and the real stuff, but in the basketball world we’ve felt some adversity with some injuries. We’re down three projected starters right now and we still don’t know the fate of Miakken’s injury.

“I’m extremely excited for these guys. I’ll tell you what, it’s a coachable group and they play hard. And when you play hard in girls’ basketball, good things can happen. So I’m super proud of our effort. It’s a fun team to be around.”

Sioux Valley used a 13-1 run that bridged the first and second quarters to take control.

Schmidt and Schneider had buckets to put the Cossacks on top 9-8 midway through the first. Webster’s Abby Snell hit a free throw on the other end.

Johnson then had back-to-back baskets and Liedtke hit a pair of free throws to make it 15-9 after a period.

Schmidt opened the second with a trey to cap the rally.

The Cossacks’ lead fluctuated between six and 11 points the rest of the half as they were ahead 30-20 at the break. Sioux Valley maintained a double-digit advantage for a majority of the third, taking a 44-31 cushion into the fourth.

The Bearcats never got closer than 13 in the final stanza.

Cara Shoemaker recorded a double-double of 12 points and 12 boards before fouling out for Webster (0-5). Jaiden Bauer had 10 points.

Sioux Valley (2-4) is host to Oldham-Ramona/Rutland on Monday, Jan. 7, at 7:30 p.m.
