WHITE – A skid steer loader caught fire while the owners were operating it Monday, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
The fire was reported at 5:15 p.m. Monday at 206th Street near 479th Avenue south of White, Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring said.
“It was found that the owners were using the skid steer to put straw bedding down. While putting the bedding down, the straw caught on fire, which then started the skid steer on fire,” Sebring said.
“The skid steer received extensive damage to the engine compartment and is valued at $40,000,” he added.
The fire is under investigation with the White Fire Department and Brookings County Sheriff’s Office, both of which responded to the scene.
