BROOKINGS – The South Dakota State University/Civic Orchestra will perform a concert titled “Music From Stage and Screen” at 4 p.m. Sunday in the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center’s Larson Memorial Concert Hall.
Conducted by SDSU's School of Performing Arts' Director David Reynolds, the SDSU/Civic Orchestra draws connections between the music of the opera stage with Hollywood blockbuster films.
Two of SDSU’s Concerto-Aria Competition winners will be featured as soloists with the orchestra. Micah Perry, a tenor majoring in music education, will sing, “Dalla sua pace” from Mozart’s “Don Giovanni.” Emily Marotz, a soprano also majoring in music education, will sing “Una donna quindice anni” from Mozart’s “Cosi Fan Tutte.” Perry and Marotz are both Brookings natives.
The orchestra will play highlights from the opera, “Tannhauser,” by Richard Wagner, as well as music by John Williams scored to accompany the 2005 film, “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.” The concert concludes with an arrangement of Dances from the film “Fiddler on the Roof.”
The concert is free and open to the public.
