Jesus prayed often. And many times his prayer was for others, such as: he prayed that we would all be united (John 17:9); he prayed for Peter (Luke 22:32); and, he prayed for those who put him on the cross (Luke 23:34). As Christians, we imitate Jesus as we, too, pray for others.

Tapping the power of prayer

Jesus prayed often. And many times his prayer was for others, such as: he prayed that we would all be united (John 17:9); he prayed for Peter (Luke 22:32); and, he prayed for those who put him on the cross (Luke 23:34). As Christians, we imitate Jesus as we, too, pray for others.

In today’s world there are many people that need our prayers, for there are many, many needs. Some of these are the great sufferings that people experience in life. Of course, we currently are most aware of the people who have suffered because of the COVID-19 virus. This has led to many other difficulties including: loss of job, loss of finances, mental anguish and so forth.

Other problems of the world where prayer is needed are: immigration issues, effects due to war, refugees, and poverty. And one of the greatest sufferings that all of us experience is the suffering due to our own personal sin. But there is something we can all do to help others as well as help ourselves with these problems: prayer!

The power of prayer comes from the promise that Jesus made concerning prayer, as he has spoken in the Holy Scriptures: “ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; and he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, it shall be opened.” (Matthew 7:7-8) This is a solemn promise by which Jesus pledges his divine word. It is an unconditional promise in which he always responds.

It is true, the way Jesus responds to our prayer is not always the way we want or as soon as we want; but, with faith, his answer is always the best. And, Jesus not only showed us how to pray, he is the answer to our prayers.

We should be praying! Every day, we should pray for others. And so, pray for the end of the pandemic. Pray to bring peace into our country and throughout the whole world. Pray in atonement for all the sins that offend Jesus. Prayer with great faith. And, like Jesus, pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17). For the world is in great need for our prayer.
