BROOKINGS – The City of Brookings will host a public open house from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday to provide information on the proposed detour route for the upcoming intersection closure at 20th Street South and 22nd Avenue South.
The closure is planned for construction work in the intersection associated with the Brookings Municipal Utilities water distribution and South Dakota Department of Transportation interchange projects.
The closure is anticipated to begin during the week of Aug. 14, and the construction in the intersection is expected to last approximately 45 calendar days.
During the construction period, the intersection will be closed entirely, and through traffic will be detoured around the construction area, along Eighth Street South, Main Avenue South and 32nd Street South. This route will be signed appropriately.
Wednesday’s informational open house will be in the third-floor chambers, Room 310, of the Brookings City & County Government Center, 520 Third St., and will provide the public an opportunity to see the vehicle and pedestrian detour routes and ask any questions on how they may need to adjust their daily routes to bypass the construction.
Those unable to attend the open house can reach out to the points of contact for the associated projects: Interchange Project Engineer Waylon Blasius at 605-692-6342 and Brookings Municipal Utilities Project Engineer Justin Bucher at 605-692-6342.
