BROOKINGS – The Manhattan Transfer is fresh off a European concert tour, and Brookings is the only South Dakota city to host the group.

The top vocal jazz ensemble that boasts 10 Grammy Awards and 45 years of worldwide sold-out concerts is opening the 10th season of Woodbine Productions at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in South Dakota State University’s Performing Arts Center.

The newly established SDSU School of Performing Arts is selling tickets, with prices ranging from $25-$35, to next week’s show in Lincoln Music Hall or by phone at 605-688-5188.

Discounts are available when purchasing season tickets to the 10th anniversary season of Woodbine Productions, which also includes concerts by Take 6, and Leslie Odom, Jr.

The Manhattan Transfer fan favorites range from getting your kicks on “Route 66” to “Boy from New York City.” Their style crosses from swing, to jazz, pop and bebop, with a history of recording 19 singles and 29 albums along with recording with the top artists in popular music.

“For 10 years, we have had the opportunity to work with an anonymous benefactor to bring the finest musicians from every genre to Brookings,” said David Reynolds, director of SDSU’s School of Performing Arts.

“While we have brought some amazing performers, we have been working for several years to bring The Manhattan Transfer to Brookings. They are an ensemble with the finest harmonies, an amazing band, and absolutely consummate entertainers. I just know that the audience will have the time of their lives!”

The Manhattan Transfer has been nominated for 20 Grammy awards, received a record-setting 10 Grammys, and has toured the world.

Prior to heading to Brookings next week for the season-opening concert, The Manhattan Transfer spent the summer selling out performances in Norway, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and Portugal.

Featuring “world famous, or about to be” musicians, Woodbine Productions is a partnership between an anonymous benefactor and the SDSU Foundation with the goal of bringing outstanding musical talent to the community of Brookings. All ticket proceeds support scholarships for music students at South Dakota State University.

Twenty-seven concerts have been presented and more than $400,000 in scholarships have been awarded through the program.
