BROOKINGS – Two Brookings residents were arrested on suspicion of drug possession Thursday evening after police were called to a home for a welfare check.
Officers arrived at the home in the 500 block of 12th Street South shortly after 7:30 p.m. Thursday and made contact with a man and a woman inside, Lt. Derrick Powers said.
After speaking with the two individuals, officers observed drug-related items at the residence, which led to further investigation, Powers said. Officers found marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and prescription medication with no clear indication of to whom it was prescribed, he added.
A 47-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, possession of more than two ounces but less than a half-pound of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The man was taken to the hospital to be medically cleared due to possible effects of suspected drug ingestion, and both suspects were transported to the Brookings County Detention Center.
