BROOKINGS – A pickup truck and a stop sign were damaged after two separate hit-and-run accidents over the weekend, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
The first one was reported at 3:30 p.m. Friday and occurred at 471st Avenue and Highway 30, Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring said.
“It was found that the stop sign for the westbound traffic had been knocked down. Vehicle parts at the scene were from an unknown maroon vehicle. The stop sign was owned by the South Dakota Department of Transportation and will cost approximately $200 to replace,” Sebring said.
The second accident was reported at 7:07 a.m. Saturday and occurred in the 200 block of East Second Street in White, Sebring said.
“It was found that the owner of the vehicle had parked their 2015 Ford F150 pickup in the apartment parking lot. It was later found that the vehicle had an estimated $2,000 worth of damage to the rear bumper,” Sebring said.
The hit-and-run is believed to have happened sometime between 7 p.m. Friday to when it was noticed Saturday morning, he added.
