United Way campaign at 87% of $1.1M goal

BROOKINGS – The Brookings Area United Way says its current campaign has reached 87 percent of its $1.1 million goal.

The campaign will wrap up soon, Executive Director Heidi Gullickson says, but there is still time for community members to make an impact with their donation.

This year, the Brookings Area United Way campaign theme is United Together.

The social problems facing the community are too big for just one organization to take on, she added. The collaboration of government agencies, businesses, local nonprofits and individuals will be required for real change to happen.

“Brookings is a wonderful community that ranks high in many areas of quality of life, but we must not turn a blind eye to situations that exist in our community,” Gullickson said. “There are families in our community that face food insecurity issues, struggle with a safe and affordable place to live, and many of our youth are dealing with challenges that we, as a community, need to address. When community members become involved by donating their time and their monetary donations, we can work together for solutions that impact all community members.”

The Brookings Area United Way invites all Brookings County residents to join in meeting the needs by donating online at brookingsunitedway.org or mailing a donation to PO Box 750, Brookings SD 57006.

“Giving to the United Way is an investment in our residents and our communities,” Gullickson said. “If you’ve already sent in your pledge, on behalf of our 44 partner agencies and the board of directors, we say thank you for your support and contributions to the United Way.

“If you haven’t, we ask that you consider helping us reach our $1,100,000 goal to meet the needs of our county.”
