MADISON – A Sioux Falls man has been identified as the person who died Saturday in a two-vehicle crash that occurred east of Madison.
A 2011 Honda Accord was eastbound on South Dakota Highway 34 when it rear-ended a 2002 Peterbilt semi-truck and trailer which had just turned eastbound onto Highway 34.
Both occupants of the Honda Accord were taken to the Madison hospital. Tavian Shaw, the 18-year-old male passenger who was not wearing a seatbelt, was later pronounced dead. Tyler Milliron, 19, Sioux Falls, was the driver.
He suffered serious non-life threatening injuries. Whether he was wearing a seatbelt is under investigation.
The two occupants of the semi-truck, the male driver and female passenger, were wearing seatbelts and were not injured. The driver was Jay Reurink and the passenger was Melanie Burggraff, both 59 years old and both from Dell Rapids.
Both Shaw and Milliron graduated in May from Washington High School in Sioux Falls, where they played football.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
