BROOKINGS – Drifting snow created some of the most dramatic photos of the weekend blizzard that roared through the Brookings area and much of South Dakota and Minnesota Friday and Saturday.
We asked Facebook users to share some of their snow photos on The Brookings Register page Saturday, and dozens of people participated, offering images of drifted-in driveways, decks, sidewalks, homes and more.
Above, Chris McVey’s photo shows drifts on rooftops and in driveways in White. Below: Teri Erdahl Bierstedt shows some of the hail that came down on Cumberland Court in Brookings Friday, before the heavy snow started. Angie Scotting’s photo captures a drift up against a door in Estelline which kept an imprint of the door when it was opened. And these vehicles parked at the EconoLodge in Brookings, shared by Stephanie Lynn, weren’t going anywhere for a while.
The National Weather Service office in Sioux Falls had one snowfall report for Brookings: a two-day total of 9.4 inches at the airport. Reports on the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail & Snow Network show about a foot of snow in south-central Brookings County between 7 a.m. Friday and 7 a.m. Sunday.
