BROOKINGS – A woman is under arrest for aggravated assault after she allegedly stabbed a man in the back, but neither reported the attack, according to Brookings Police.
Officers had been receiving word about the incident over the past several days and heard on Thursday that a man was receiving treatment at the hospital for a stab wound, Lt. Derrick Powers said. Officers confirmed that the 25-year-old Brookings man had been stabbed in the back.
The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday evening at a residence in the 300 block of Medary Avenue South. The man was arguing with a 19-year-old Brookings woman he knew.
“When he turned to leave, he reported that she stabbed him in the back,” Powers said.
The man was stabbed once. Powers was not sure Friday if the man had been released from the hospital.
“(Thursday) evening, as part of the continuing investigation, we were able to make contact with the female suspect at the residence in the 300 block of Medary Avenue South,” Powers said.
She was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and transported to the Brookings County Detention Center, Powers said.
