ELKTON – A Thursday evening fire involving a tractor and a compressor resulted in an estimated $125,500 in damage, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
In the news release, Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring said the incident occurred at 8:52 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 14 and 485th Avenue, north of Elkton. The tractor, a 2013 Case IH 235 Magnum, was being used to agitate a lagoon when it started on fire. According to the release, the flames spread and started a nearby Caesar 652 M1 compressor on fire as well.
The cause of the fire remains unknown. In addition to the sheriff’s office, the Elkton Fire Department also responded to the incident.
