BROOKINGS – Brookings High School art students won the state championship at the 2019 Visual Arts State Competition. They showed off their beautiful artwork during the AA State Basketball Tournament held in Rapid City last weekend. This is the second time Brookings has won the state title in the past three years; they placed second as a team a year ago.
Individually, these art students won eight top-three places from the 12 art categories. From more than 300 pieces of art, the Directors Choice Award was given to Pavleena Naegele for her linoleum print. And the Best of Show was given to Kelsey Werpy for earning the highest point total with her mixed media art. These art peices and all other high school artwork will be on display for the public at the BHS Koffee Klatch May 14.
