The Bobcats took the early lead when Akren Prodoehl drew a one-out walk before Jameson Meyer stroked a two-out double to plate Prodoehl.

But the Governors tied the game with a run in their half of the first frame after Michael Lusk hit a one-out double; moved to third on a passed ball; and then scored on Spencer Sarringar’s ground out.

Pierre took the lead for good in the third inning as Connor Gerber led off with a walk and Lusk connected for a two-run homer. Sarringar reached on an error, and later scored on another error. In between, Joe King took one for the team and; moved to third on the second error; and scored on Nate Zimmerman’s RBI single. Payton Zabel, who got on base via an error, went to third on Zimmerman’s hit and then scored on Garret Stout’s sacrifice fly as the Governors led 6-1 through three complete.

The Govs scored two runs in both the fourth and fifth inning for insurance.

Brookings scored twice in the top of the third to get on the scoreboard first again, but the Governors answered with a five-run third and then tacked on a lone run in the fifth for the final margin.

Schoon and Niklason hit back-to-back singles to open the third before Prodoehl attempted a sacrifice bunt to move the runners up. But Pierre tried to go to second to get Niklason out, which allowed Prodoehl to reach first on a fielder’s choice as Schoon scored on the throwing error to second base.

Chris Lerdal’s fielder’s choice allowed Niklason to move to third as Prodoehl was forced at second, and then, Meyer singled to right to plate Niklason for the 2-0 edge.

The Bobcats sandwiched two errors around a base hit and a hit batter to give Pierre one run before another walk, another error and a fielder’s choice allowed the home team to score four more runs for a 5-2 lead.

Sarringar hit a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the fifth to make it 6-2.

BROOKINGS – Niklason went 3-for-3 with three RBIs, and the Bobcats scored a trio of runs in each of the odd-number innings they batted en route to the win over the Eagles.

Kreutner came through with a two-out double in the bottom of the first to plate Prodoehl, who reached on a fielder’s choice, and Meyer, who got on via a two-out single. Kreutner later scored on an error to make it 3-0.
