BROOKINGS – The Bombers Black and Watertown Black Sox split a youth baseball doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Mickelson Field.

Brookings (9-6) plays a twinbill at Harrisburg today at 5 p.m.

Game 1

• Watertown 13, Brookings 1

The Bombers Black scored first, but the Red Sox answered with a run in the third and took control with a seven-run outburst in the fourth.

Watertown leadoff hitter Dawson Schmidt went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored.

Parker Reed, who doubled, and Mason Lloyd added two RBIs apiece. Logan McKeever contributed a two-bagger.

Lexan Thorson tossed a four-hitter, giving up one run with six strikeouts and a walk.

Brookings’ Jackson Krogman led off the bottom of the first with a double and moved to third on Max Struck’s sacrifice bunt. Maxwell Kjelden, who finished 2-for-3, followed with an RBI single to make it 1-0.

Struck had the team’s other hit.

Kyle Bauer gave up eight runs – three earned – on seven hits and three walks with a pair of strikeouts in four innings. Nick Schefers pitched the final three frames.

Game 2

The Bombers Black opened up a 6-0 lead after two innings while salvaging a split.

Struck tossed a six-hitter, giving up one run with a pair of strikeouts.

Struck reached base in all four of his plate appearances, walking three times and also getting hit by a pitch. He scored three runs and had an RBI.

Jamison Honkomp and Henry Hammrich both totaled two hits and an RBI.

Kjelden and Mason Bebensee added a pair of hits apiece.

Kyle Bauer, who singled, and Wesley Koenig had Brookings’ other RBIs.

Six different Black Sox had a hit, including doubles by Reed and Thorson – the latter of which tallied an RBI.

Kale Stevenson took the loss on the mound after giving up nine runs – five earned – on five hits and five walks with three strikeouts over 3 1/3 innings.
