BROOKINGS – A 6-year-old boy has died from injuries suffered in a two-vehicle crash last Wednesday, 3 miles east of Brookings.
Ethan Rosa of Aurora died this past weekend in a Sioux Falls hospital.
A 2009 Toyota Corolla was westbound on U.S. Highway 14 when the driver lost control on the ice-covered road at 5:50 p.m. March 7. The vehicle slid across the center line into the eastbound lane and collided with a 2002 International 9400 semi-truck.
All three people in the Toyota were injured. Rosa and the other child, a 10-month-old boy, received life-threatening injuries. The younger boy remains hospitalized in Sioux Falls. The 27-year-old female driver, Shalimar Luciano of Aurora, suffered serious non-life-threatening injuries.
The 44-year-old man driving the semi, Wesley Vortherms of Okabena, Minnesota, was not injured.
All four occupants were wearing seatbelts.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
