BROOKINGS – Brookings Police are looking for a man who reportedly tried to lure two kids into his vehicle on Wednesday, according to Assistant Chief Derrick Powers.

The report came in about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, he said.

The incident occurred about 3 p.m. Wednesday and involved two grade-school-aged boys who were walking home from school.

“As they were walking in the 1000 block of Southland Lane, a male attempted to lure them over to his vehicle by making verbal contact with them,” Powers said.

“He was standing next to his vehicle which was parked in a driveway in the 1000 block of Southland Lane,” he added.

The boys didn’t reply and kept walking; the man got into his vehicle and left the area, Powers said.

The vehicle is described as a darker orange SUV or crossover-style vehicle.

The suspicious individual is described as a white male in his mid-30s, 5-7 to 5-8 tall, with an average build, and had darker-colored hair, Powers said.

He was wearing a puffy black jacket, gray stocking hat, “and black Nike shoes that had a gray swoosh,” Powers said.
