Brookings AARP Foundation TaxAide offering free tax preparation

BROOKINGS — Brookings AARP Foundation TaxAide is offering free individual income tax preparation and e-filing for the 2023 tax year for low and moderate income taxpayers, with special attention to those aged 60 and older. Appointments are necessary.

Call 605-627-1793 and leave your name and telephone number. Spell your last name. A volunteer will contact you on the next Monday through Wedneseday.

If the organization is able to do your tax return, you will be given instructions on where to bring your tax documents.

Do not schedule an appointment until you have all of your tax documents for the 2023 year.

This would include social security statements (pink box), 1099-R’s for pensions or IRA’s, 1099-INT for interest, 1099- DIV for dividends, 1099-B for sale of stocks or bonds, 1099-MISC for miscellaneous income, W-2’s for wages, W2G for unemployment compensation, 1099-NEC for self-employment income, and any other tax documents for 2023 that you have received.

If you have a Health Savings Account (HSA) or you paid college tuition, you will need the 2023 tax documents which may be available only online. The tax preparers need a printed copy of any documents you find on-line

Bring your 2022 tax returns. You must bring a government-issued ID, such as a driver’s license, to verify your identity and also proof of your social security number and the social security numbers of anyone else listed on your tax return. If you want to direct deposit we need you bank information a blank check or saving account statement will have the information.
