Brookings-area agendas for the week starting May 19, 2024

Brookings City Council

It is possible that at least four city council members may be present for a public open house that will be May 20 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the council chambers for the Six-Mile Creek feasibility study. Though a majority of City Council members may be present, no official city business will be acted upon.

Brookings County Commission

The Brookings County Commission will meet at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Brookings City & County Government Center at 520 Third St. Items on the agenda include

• Invitation for a citizen to schedule time on the commission agenda for an item not listed

• Approve agenda

• Approve minutes

• Travel and education requests

• Personnel action notices

• Cellular authorizations

• Human Services report

• Approve claims

• Highway Department report

• Finance officer’s report

• BATA update from Travis Bortnem, executive director

• Discussion and possible action on approving a Government Center energy/LED project

• Approve a plat of Oak Lake wetland conservation easement tracts

• Action on a resolution assuring fair housing

• Action to approve a South Dakota Department of Transportation agreement for use and restoration of detour and/or wet weather detour

• Action to approve an application for occupancy of right-of-way of county highways made by Sioux Valley Energy in Laketon Township

• Action to approve abatement applications made by CD Properties, LLC in the amounts of $868.88, $1,373.79, $748.19, $3,083.35, $2,183.73, $1,131.03, $2,065.25 and $3,592.74

• Action to approve RFP No/ 1 for the historic courthouse roof replacement project in the amount of $1,413.50, switching the specified roof drain model.

• Action to authorize Chairperson Jensen to sign documents pertaining to the CDBG grant for the Ivy Center expansion project

• Action to approve a fireworks display at 48318 213th Street, Elkton on Saturday, May 25. at dusk for a family party

• Action to approve the Volga Old Timer’s Day fireworks display on Friday, June 7, at dusk near Meadow Creek Golf Course

• Action to approve a request to fill vacancy for a part-time female correctional officer in the detention center

The Brookings City Council will hold a study session at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Brookings City & County Government Center at 520 Third St. Items on the agenda include:

• Approve agenda

• Open forum

• Brookings inclusive play project at the Fishback Soccer Complex

• Edgebrook Golf Course water sourcing

• Presentation on economic development master plan dashboard

• City council member introduction of topics for future discussion

• Executive session for the purpose of consulting with legal counsel or reviewing communications from legal counsel about proposed or pending litigation or contractual matters.
