Brookings-based Civil Air Patrol squadron has new cadet commander

BROOKINGS — The Big Sioux Composite Squadron recently held a change of command ceremony on May 9, during which Cadet Lt. Col. Mitchell Trias relinquished command of the cadets to the now-Cadet 2nd Lt. Tyson Springman. Trias had served as the Cadet Commander since June 2023.

Squadron Commander 1st Lt Jacob Roth said, “I am excited to see where C/2d Lt Springman takes us with his new leadership role.”

Cadet commander is the highest cadet position attainable in a squadron. Cadet commanders serve for at least a one-year term. This gives cadets advancing through the program an opportunity to serve in this leadership position and the chance to bring their new ideas. The cadet commander is responsible for leading and mentoring the squadron’s cadets and organizing squadron activities.
