SIOUX FALLS – A man and a woman from Brookings, convicted of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance, have been sentenced to federal prison, United States Attorney Ron Parsons announced this week.
Jeremy Dean Riemersma, 41, was sentenced to 70 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
Jody Marie Riemersma, 42, was sentenced to 12 months and a day in federal prison, followed by two years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
Both were ordered to self-surrender to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service by Feb. 16.
The sentences were handed down Monday by U.S. District Judge Karen Schreier
A federal grand jury indicted the Riemersmas on April 2, 2019. They both pleaded guilty on May 11, 2020.
The conviction stemmed from incidents beginning on an unknown date, until on or about April 1, 2019, in the District of South Dakota, when the Riemersmas knowingly and intentionally combined, conspired, confederated and agreed together with each other, and others known and unknown, to intentionally distribute 50 grams or more of a mixture and substance containing methamphetamine.
Methamphetamine is a Schedule II controlled substance.
The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation and various law enforcement agencies in Minnesota investigated the case. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Tamara Nash prosecuted the case.
