YANKTON – The Bobcats had another big fourth quarter in downing the Gazelles, 51-29, in an Eastern South Dakota Conference matchup at the Summit Center.
After scoring the final 18 points to defeat Pierre, 62-48, last Saturday, Brookings used a 17-4 fourth-quarter surge last night against Yankton to pull away for the win.
The ‘Cats led 10-9 after a quarter; increased their advantage to 20-17 at halftime; and then went up 34-25 through three before the big final frame.
Michaela Jewett’s 19 points and five rebounds led Brookings, which improved to 5-4 overall and 5-3 in the ESD. Megan Gilk added 12 points, five boards, two assists and a steal as Carolyn Hieb contributed six points on a pair of 3-pointers to go along with two dimes.
Madison Wuebben scored nine points and pulled down three rebounds to lead the Gazelles, who dropped to 3-6 and 3-4 in conference play. Maddy Hochstein chipped in with eight points.
The Bobcats travel to Huron on Tuesday for an ESD rematch with the Tigers. Brookings beat Huron, 56-45, on Dec. 12 at Bob Jostad.
