The week of April 7-13 is celebrated as National Library Week. Brookings is fortunate to have a wonderful public library that is available to everyone in our community. If you haven’t stepped into the library lately, you might be surprised to discover that, though it is certainly a place where you can check out books on a wide variety of subjects for free, it is so much more!
The library is a valuable community resource for expanding our horizons. It offers a welcoming atmosphere for connecting with others, learning new skills, discussing current issues and ideas, enjoying a special program or movie, participating in a book club, playing games, using the maker space, encouraging literacy skills with many offerings for children and teens.
The library has public access copy machines, computers and WiFi. Helpful librarians are experts at assisting people who are seeking information or looking for the answers to tough questions. There’s even an outreach librarian available for those who can’t physically get to the library. The library has a good collection of reference materials, newspapers, and periodicals and a comfortable space for using them.
Beyond books of many genres and formats, there are movies, games, and a variety of activity kits that can be checked out. Find more about the library at www.brookingslibrary.org. Do yourself a favor and make the library a regular part of your life!
