AURORA – A 22-year-old Brookings woman was taken to a Sioux Falls hospital following a collision with the belly dump trailer of a Peterbilt semi on Wednesday a few miles northeast of Aurora, according to a news release from the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

AURORA – A 22-year-old Brookings woman was taken to a Sioux Falls hospital following a collision with the belly dump trailer of a Peterbilt semi on Wednesday a few miles northeast of Aurora, according to a news release from the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
Lauren Schwedhelm, 22, was driving a 2016 Ford F-250 eastbound on 213th Street. At its intersection with 478th Avenue, Schwedhelm collided with the belly dump trailer of a semi being driven southbound by Travis Sik, 33, of Minneota, Minnesota, according to the release. The collision occurred at 2:51 p.m.
Both drivers were treated by Brookings Ambulance at the scene. Sik was treated and released while Schwedhelm was taken by Brookings Ambulance to the Brookings Hospital and later to Sioux Falls for unknown injuries.
Charges are pending from the collision, which caused $38,000 in damage to Schwedhelm’s vehicle and $22,000 in damage to Sik’s vehicle.
The incident is being investigated by the sheriff’s office.
