MIITCHELL – Mitchell beat the Bullets 10-7 in the first game of pool play in the South Dakota Class A 16U State Baseball Tournament on Thursday at Pete Lien Field.
Brookings scored two runs in the first, second and fourth frames to move ahead 6-5.
Mitchell put up a five-spot in the bottom of the fourth to grab a 10-6 advantage.
Sam Johnson doubled, singled, drove in two runs and scored three times.
David Brink finished 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.
Addison Ronning went 2-for-3 with a walk.
Jack Merritt tripled and scored twice. Izaya Bangs Dandurand had the team’s other hit.
Griffen Bartels allowed 10 runs – nine earned – on nine hits and six walks with a strikeout over 3 1/3 innings. Dandurand tossed the final 2 2/3, surrendering just one hit with two Ks.
Mitchell’s Hudson Haley (double) and Gavin Soukup both had two RBIs.
Haley worked the final 3 2/3 innings to pick up the victory.
Brookings faces Sioux Falls East today at 2:30 p.m. and Harrisburg Maroon on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. to conclude pool play. Bracket play is Sunday.
