Carrie Pope, of Brookings, SD, passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at the age of 76. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Eidsness Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. A time of fellowship and sharing of coffee and cookies will follow the service in the fellowship area of the funeral home. Burial will take place on Monday, July 15, 2024, at Black Hills National Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. mountain time.
Carrie was born on June 3, 1948, to Vearl and Lorna (Junkman) Henrichsen. She grew up in Pierre, SD. It was during her time in Pierre that she met her husband, Harley Pope Sr.
Carrie and Harley were united in marriage on November 21, 1969. They were married for 52 years. From this union, they had 5 children: Harley Jr., Charles, Laura, Travis, and Teala. During their marriage they moved several times due to Harley's job with the railroad. In 1981, they decided to settle in Phillip, SD. Carrie remained here until 1999, when she moved to Brookings, SD. Harley joined her there after his retirement.
Throughout her life Carrie worked in healthcare, hospitality services, and manufacturing. She retired in 2003. Carrie enjoyed crocheting and making items with plastic canvas.
Carrie is survived by her children: Charles of Rapid City, SD, Laura (BJ) Byer of Tea, SD, Travis of Brookings, SD, and Teala (Matt) Wetterling of Somerset, WI; nine grandchildren: Nick, Alex, Anthony, Baldwin, Gavin, Aislinn, Aidan, Ava, and Alyson; one great-grandson Hassen; numerous nieces and nephews; and several extended family members.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Harley Pope Sr.; one son, Harley Pope Jr.; her parents; and one sister, Vicky.
