’Chutes take a pair from Harrisburg

BROOKINGS – The ’Chutes pushed their season mark to 9-19 with a sweep over Harrisburg in Junior American Legion action on Thursday at Bob Shelden Field.

The ’Chutes posted a five-inning 11-1 win in the opener, before downing Harrisburg, 9-4, in the nightcap.

Brookings plays host to Sioux Falls East next Friday in a 5 p.m. doubleheader.

The ’Chutes combined a four-hit complete-game pitching effort from Trevor Berreth tp go along with a 12-hit offensive effort to cruise past the visitors in five innings.

Berreth gave up a leadoff double and a single in the fifth as he finished with three base on balls and a strikeout for the win.

Theo Burns came up with two RBIs on three hits – one of which was a double – while Parker Beers drove in three runs on two hits – one of which was a triple. Brock Luze added an RBI-triple to go along with another single for the ’Chutes.

Parker Rykhus led the ’Chutes with four RBIs in the nightcap, to go along with a five-hit, three-walk and one-strikeout performance to earn the win.

Rykhus ended up giving up four runs – one earned – in a game that ended with six Harrisburg hits on the night.

Christian Mediger came on in relief and allowed just one hit with one walk.
