VOLGA – A controlled burn left its containment pit on Tuesday at a residence on 462nd Avenue near U.S. Highway 14, causing approximately $500 in damage.
That’s according to Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring in a news release from the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office and the Volga Fire Department responded to the fire west of Volga at 11:35 a.m., which had spread through corn stalk stover that had blown into the area and ignited a pile of logs. Firefighters were able to regain control of the fire shortly after their arrival.
No injuries were reported, according to Sebring.
