Duane “Doc” Slettedahl, age 74, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at a local care center.
A prayer service will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown, SD with visitation starting at 2 p.m. There will be a celebration of life event immediately following at the Elks Lodge in Watertown.
Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown at a later date. Honorary urnbearers will be Samuel Stanton, Zachary Stanton, Cydney Stanton, and Declan Slettedahl.
Doc was born on Aug. 24, 1949, in Wood Lake, Minnesota to Prescott and Violet (Schulz) Slettedahl. He grew up in Wood Lake and graduated from Wood Lake High School in 1968 and attended vo-tech in Granite Falls. He married his bride, Shirley in 1969.
Doc served in the Minnesota National Guard.
Doc and Shirley moved to Brookings SD, in 1981 and Doc went into the farm equipment business. He traveled the upper Midwest for 40 years, making friends everywhere that he traveled. In 1999 Doc and Shirley moved to Kimball SD and became hotel owners. They moved once again in 2009 to Watertown. They spent the last 10 years in Arizona during the winter.
Doc loved hunting and fishing and doing almost anything outdoors. His favorite hobby was teasing his grandkids and singing made-up songs to them. He had a contagious smile and brought out the best in everyone that he met.
Doc is survived by his wife Shirley Slettedahl of Watertown, SD; his daughter Stacie (Jason) Stanton of Watertown, SD; his son Tony Slettedahl of Aberdeen, SD; his daughter Ann (Kevin) Jacobsma of Sioux Falls, SD; his 4 grandchildren, Samuel, Zachary, Cydney Stanton and Declan Slettedahl; siblings Gene (Marion) Slettedahl, Janel (Gerry) Mitchell, Kathy (Jeff) Munsch , Owen (Judy) Slettedahl, Steve (Lynn) Slettedahl, Susan (Jerry) Zirk, and Mary (Mike) Preuss.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Prescott and Violet Slettedahl and one niece, Sally Munsch.
