BROOKINGS – Two finalists for the position of dean of the College of Nursing will visit the South Dakota State University campus this week.
Each candidate will spend two days interviewing on SDSU’s main campus in Brookings and at off-campus sites in Sioux Falls and Rapid City. While on campus, the candidates will meet with university administration, deans, faculty, staff and students. The interviews will also include open forums for each individual to engage with key industry, community and university stakeholders.
The two candidates are:
Mary Minton
Minton has been a member of the South Dakota State University faculty since 2007, starting as an assistant professor. She became an associate professor in 2013 and was named associate dean for graduate nursing in 2014.
Recognized for her research on end of life communication and palliative care, Minton shares a patent on an assessment instrument in that field. She was honored as the college’s outstanding researcher at the university’s 2019 Celebration of Faculty Excellence and received the college’s faculty award for excellence in teaching, research and leadership.
Minton received a bachelor’s degree from Augustana, a master’s degree from the University of Michigan and a doctorate from the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
A licensed clinical nurse specialist, she has also worked as a chemotherapy nurse, home health nurse and parish nurse.
Minton will interview Tuesday and Wednesday. Her public open forum will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the University Student Union’s Herold Crest Room.
Mary Anne Krogh
Krogh has served as Mount Marty’s dean of nursing and health sciences since June 2018. She had served as the clinical director and program director of its nurse anesthesia program since May 2011. During that time, she was promoted from assistant professor to associate professor and professor.
Before starting at Mount Marty, she was the associate director for the Minneapolis School of Anesthesia’s nurse anesthesia program.
She has worked as a certified registered nurse anesthetist at the Hennepin County Medical Center and the North Memorial Medical Center and continues to do so with Avera McKennan Hospital. She has also taught at the Minneapolis School of Anesthesia and served as an adjunct and assistant professor at Saint Mary’s University.
Krogh was inducted as a fellow to the American Academy of Nursing in 2015.
Krogh earned a bachelor’s degree and doctorate from South Dakota State and her master’s degree from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota.
