BROOKINGS – A Vermillion girl died after being found in the pool at the Days Inn in Brookings on Saturday, according to Brookings Police.
An online obituary from Hansen Funeral Home of Vermillion identifies the victim as 7-year-old Brooklyn Williams. Visitation starts at 4:30 p.m. today and funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, both at First Baptist Church in Vermillion.
Just before 8:50 p.m. Saturday, Brookings police received a report that a female was found unresponsive in the pool, Assistant Chief Derrick Powers said.
Officers and the Brookings Ambulance responded. By the time they arrived, “she had been removed from the water and CPR was being administered. Further treatment was provided by the ambulance crew and first responders. She was transported to the Brookings Emergency Room, where she was later pronounced dead,” Powers said.
He declined to release any more information, including whether there was a lifeguard on duty.
